Sex Doll Upgrades That Are Actually Worth the Money

To make things clearer, we’ve divided them into three groups:

These are the upgrades that consistently improve realism, usability or durability enough that we think most buyers will genuinely appreciate them long-term.

Gel Breasts

Gel breasts are one of the most noticeable realism upgrades available.

They create much softer touch, more natural bounce & jiggle and a more realistic feel compared to standard solid silicone breasts. For many buyers, this is one of the first upgrades that makes a doll feel significantly more lifelike.

In most cases, we think gel breasts are absolutely worth the extra cost. That's why in most cases we ensure they are free. 

The main exception is extremely large breast sizes. Very large gel breasts can become quite heavy over time and may require extra support depending on the body design and how the doll is stored.

Still, for most buyers, gel breasts are one of the safest “worth it” upgrades available.

As of 2026, there are extremely few problems with gel breasts. You may find older articles mentioning issues, but these days with material improvements it is very rare. 

Hard Hands

Hard hands are another upgrade we recommend very frequently.

This upgrade makes the silicone hands firmer, rather than fully hard. They are still able to be posed and positioned as normal, the main benefit is increased durability. Fingers are less likely to get damaged, and less likely to experience finger pokes (where the skeleton pokes through the tips of the finger). 

For most buyers, hard hands are a practical quality-of-life upgrade that improves long-term ownership.

Finger Skeleton Upgrade

A proper articulated finger skeleton is a huge improvement over older wire-style fingers.

Traditional wire fingers can eventually break, poke through the material, or lose their ability to hold poses properly over time. Finger skeleton systems are much more durable and make posing hands far easier and more realistic.

This is one of the upgrades that buyers almost never regret choosing.

If hand posing matters to you at all, this upgrade is usually worth it.

ROS / Movable Jaw

ROS (Real Oral System) or movable jaw upgrades can dramatically improve realism during oral sex as well as well as for posing and photography.

The added movement creates a more natural appearance and is much more expressive compared to fixed-mouth designs.

For buyers interested in oral functionality or simply wanting a more expressive and realistic head design, this upgrade is often worth considering.

Like many upgrades, aesthetics can vary between brands, but overall this is one of the more meaningful functional upgrades available.

Gel Butt (Silicone Dolls)

One of the biggest differences between silicone and TPE dolls is firmness. Silicone is generally more durable and realistic visually, but can sometimes feel firmer than buyers expect.

Gel butt upgrades help solve this by adding softness and compression to the butt area, creating a much more natural feel closer to softer TPE dolls.

For many silicone doll buyers, this upgrade significantly improves realism.

However, there is a tradeoff.

If you plan to sit the doll for very long periods, or want the butt shape to remain perfectly round in all positions, a gel butt may not be ideal. Softer gel areas can look different in certain positions.

For buyers prioritising softness and realism, though, it is often worth it.

These upgrades can be fantastic for the right buyer — but they are not automatically the best choice for everyone.

Silicone Upgrade

Silicone upgrades can absolutely be worth it for buyers prioritising visual realism, premium finishing and easier maintenance.

However, silicone is not automatically “better” than TPE for every person.

Some buyers actually prefer the softness and elasticity of TPE or STPE materials, even though silicone generally offers better durability and realism in fine details.

This upgrade really depends on what you value most: softness, realism, maintenance or durability.

RST Skin Texture

RST (Real Skin Texture) upgrades add micro-texturing to the doll’s skin surface to simulate the subtle feel of human skin, and to give the closest appearance to real skin. It is typically made by taking an impression of a real woman's skin, so it is the height of realism. 

For buyers chasing maximum tactile and visual realism, this can be a very appealing upgrade.

However, not everyone prefers textured skin. Many buyers are perfectly happy with smooth TPE or lightly textured standard silicone finishes.

This is very much a preference-based upgrade rather than an essential one. If realism is your main goal and this option falls within your budget — then RST is an upgrade worth looking at. 

Skin Softness Upgrades

Extra-soft skin upgrades are heavily marketed, but they come with trade-offs buyers should understand.

The softer a doll becomes, the more delicate the material usually becomes as well. Ultra-soft bodies can be more vulnerable to tearing, pressure marks and accidental damage — especially for newer owners still learning handling and maintenance.

Most major brands already aim for a balance between softness and durability in their standard formulation.

For experienced and careful owners, softer skin can absolutely improve realism. For beginners, however, this upgrade is often over-prioritised. If you are a first time buyer, and you think you will buy more dolls in the future, sometimes it is best to make your mistakes on the standard skin!

AI Upgrades

AI systems are evolving quickly and can add conversational or interactive features to a doll.

For buyers specifically interested in companionship technology, this can be an exciting category.

However, many AI systems require ongoing subscriptions, so buyers should understand the long-term costs before purchasing. Some, such as Metabox/Vinetalk, have quite expensive ongoing subscriptions.

As of writing, these systems are still more of a niche enthusiast feature rather than a must-have upgrade for most people.

Robotics

Robotic systems can absolutely enhance interaction and pleasure for some buyers.

Brands like Irontech have shown that robotic functionality is becoming increasingly reliable compared to earlier generations.

However, robotics also add significant weight, complexity and cost to a doll. Buyers should also understand that electrical systems are handled differently from normal body warranties, and failures may not always qualify for replacement in the same way as standard doll issues.

For most people, robotics are more of an enhancement or novelty feature rather than the core reason to buy a doll.

But for buyers specifically interested in advanced interaction, they can still be very enjoyable.

Toe Skeleton

Toe skeleton upgrades help keep the toes posed more naturally rather than moving loosely.

For some buyers this adds realism, especially in barefoot photography or display situations.

However, most dolls on the market do not include this feature and owners are still perfectly happy with them.

This is a smaller realism detail rather than a major upgrade. If it fits your budget, or is in a free promotion - definitely take it!

Suction Vagina

Suction systems generally receive fairly positive feedback overall and can enhance sensation during use.

Many systems also include moaning functionality bundled together with the upgrade.

However, buyers should keep expectations realistic. The suction effect is often fairly subtle, and the systems do create audible noise during use.

Some people love the added interactivity, while others find it less impactful than expected.

Implanted Hair

Implanted hair can make a doll look incredibly realistic.

Hairlines appear more natural, and the overall appearance can feel much more premium compared to wigs.

However, implanted hair also requires more care and maintenance. Unlike wigs, you cannot easily change styles or colours, and improper brushing or styling can damage the hair over time.

In softer heads, implanted hair can also loosen or detach more easily.

For buyers who want a very specific permanent look and are comfortable maintaining it, implanted hair can be excellent.

For buyers who enjoy changing styles or want easier maintenance, wigs are often the better option.

Implanted human hair is usually even harder to justify financially, as it carries many of the same maintenance drawbacks at a significantly higher cost.

H20 Vagina / Water Lubrication Systems

H20 systems allow water to be used instead of traditional lubricant during use.

While the idea is interesting, the practical value is somewhat limited for many buyers.

Most systems only function effectively for around 80–100 uses before standard lubricant becomes necessary anyway, making the long-term value proposition questionable relative to the upgrade cost.

For most buyers, this is more of a novelty feature than a major improvement.

These upgrades are not necessarily “bad,” but for most buyers we do not think they deliver enough value relative to the added cost, complexity or maintenance.

Heating Systems

Heating systems are one of the most commonly overrated upgrades.

In practice, most internal heating systems do not heat the entire body evenly, take quite a long time to warm up, and can sometimes be unreliable over time.

Shipping and transit can also be rough on electrical systems, leading to failures that are difficult or impossible to repair. Warranty on this type of item is a refund on the upgrade component only, as it is considered an upgrade not a core function of the doll. If it does fail, the added weight remains for no functionality. 

Most buyers can achieve a better and more reliable warming experience using external heating methods like electric blankets or heated bedding. These are often about the same price, with a long returns warranty. (Tip: never directly touch or wrap your doll with the heated blankets). 

For the majority of people, built-in heating systems simply do not offer enough benefit for the extra cost.

Moaning Systems

Moaning systems can sound exciting in theory, but in practice they are often less convincing than buyers expect.

These systems currently use preloaded voice packs that may not match the appearance or personality buyers imagine for their doll. For example, all units on the market currently come with an English speaking Chinese accent, which may not suit certain other doll styles. The voice cannot be changed or over-written. 

For Asian-inspired dolls or buyers specifically looking for this feature, they can still be enjoyable.

However, for most buyers, the novelty tends to wear off fairly quickly.

Additionally, moaning functionality is often already bundled with suction systems, making standalone moaning upgrades less worthwhile.

The moaning systems themselves come in two different options: 1) with sensors that detect touch in the breasts and vagina areas, or 2) simple movement detection that begins moaning when the doll is being used or moved around. Out of the two, the first option is usually best as it reacts more naturally to touching. 

Matte Head / Matte Body Finish

Matte finishes are another upgrade that often sounds more valuable than it actually is.

In many cases, the matte effect can be replicated simply through regular powdering and maintenance.

Additionally, matte coatings are often temporary treatments that gradually wear off or leech over time. In some cases, this can even affect makeup or painted details as the coating breaks down.

For most buyers, the standard finish is perfectly fine and easier to maintain long-term.
